Key Persons:  Prof. Francesco Delli Priscoli, Dr. Vincenzo Suraci

Project Description:

The project “CLoud-based Platform for Immersive adaptive video Streaming (CLIPS)», with number F/050136/01-03/X32” – Scientific Responsible Prof. Saverio Mascolo – CUP B98I17000150008, CRAT will be engaged in the following activites:

  • Industrial Research Activites – The objective is to first of all make a study on the state-of-the-art on Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition algorithms that can be used for User Profiling, QoE Evaluation and QoE control modules. Then, for each of the mentioned modules, a selection of the most appropriate algorithms will be made and these algorithms will be adapted to the specific use cases. Moreover, interfaces between these modules and the other project modules will be developed (in particular the ones connecting the Monitored Information Database and the Adaptive Video Control algorithms). At the same time the architecture of the Monitored Information Database will be defined (with focus on which information have to be stored and on data types) together with its interfaces. For each of the three modules, proper simulation and validation will be done, in order to show the effectiveness of the choosen algorithms and in order to correctly tune their parameters. The output of these activities will be the definition of the QoE Management system (including all its sub-systems – User Profiling, QoE Evaluations and QoE Control) and of the Monitored Information Database.
  • Sperimental Development Activities – The objective of these activities is the development of the QoE Management system previously introduced. In particular, the activities will focus on the development of the software components for the QoE Management systems. Given the complexity of such required functionalities (e.g., many video sections, many active users), the systems will be tested and validated through software simulations.
